Dealing with the Media: You Don't Have to be
a Victim
Media Relations and Crisis Communication
Seminar
Why did Exxon come off looking so poorly in light of the tanker
accident in Alaska a dozen years ago? How did Johnson and Johnson
actually gain credibility and market-share based on how they handled
the Tylenol tampering case? Why do high profile figures under fire
such as Martha Stewart have such a hard time successfully dealing
with the media? Finally, why do some corporations and organizations
get their message across while others fall flat on their face?
If you think the media's agenda is to make you "look bad,"
how exactly can you manage this stressful experience and come out
on top? Stand & Deliver president Steve Adubato has spent much
of his professional life as a broadcaster and journalist. A winner
of 4 Emmy awards (3 as "Best Anchor") for Channel 13 (PBS)
in New York. He has provided expert media communication analysis
for MSNBC, FOX News and ABC/7 in New York. Steve uses these experiences
as well as his years as a communication coach and trainer to help
seminar participants develop effective media and crisis related
strategies that will help get the message across under the most
difficult of circumstances.
Participants in this Stand & Deliver seminar will learn to
develop a concise, compelling and credible message that anchors
your communication. Participants will gain the skills needed to
identify and respond to the most pressing and difficult questions
the media (or other aggressive questioners) are likely to ask. Further,
participants will gain the skills needed to take a proactive offensive
strategy by responding briefly to these questions and then transitioning
back to your message or agenda.
Mock interviews will be videotaped and analyzed and constructive
feedback provided so each participant walks away with a clear communication
"game plan" for successfully dealing with the media in
any circumstance. Specifically, participants will gain the tools
necessary to:
- prepare for any media interaction
- have a clear understanding of the dynamics of dealing with
the media
- identify a compelling and credible message and use it to anchor
any media interview
- simplify complex and/or technical information
- deal with difficult or challenging questions in a proactive
and confident fashion
-
- "As a broadcaster, Steve Adubato does a real public service
by providing a forum for intelligent, in-depth discussion. That
experience has been invaluable to our managers in communicating
to the outside world"
— Alfred C. Koeppe, President & COO
